"A unique twist in the horror genre. Taking place in 18th century France, this horrifying tale explores the life of a man who over-indulges in his greatest passion. It eventually takes control of his life, leading him to manipulate and commit unspeakable acts. " - Sienna, Griffin Bay Bookstore.
A quick and enthralling read. Tartt’s writing captures the essence of classics with a modern spin, making it easy to get through, but you still may find yourself learning new words and phrases. The main character, Richard Papen, comes from a low-income dysfunctional Californian family and finds himself attending a prestigious Vermont university on scholarship. He quickly becomes mystified by and inserts himself into a group of students studying ancient Greek who have cast themselves off from the rest of the student body. As you follow Papen through the story, you are swept away into an academic world similar to Dead Poets Society but with more darkness and mystery. Are these secretive students enlightened or are they out of touch with rational life? - Sienna, Griffin bay Bookstore.
